AMAYA RESTAURANT
HALKIN ARCADE LONDON SW
Amaya is a new restaurant
built in the 1970's Halkin Arcade, behind the impressive neo-classical
frontage of the Regency period 'Pantechnicon' building.
The restaurant plan is wedged shaped and the entry is at the sharp end of the wedge, opening into the bar.
The show kitchen is open to the diners who can see the tandoor food being cooked in a variety of superbly made traditional central Indian pans and ovens.
The main dining tables are raised on a low plinth in front of the show kitchen. The lower tables are arranged along the Arcade in a more intimate area. In the day time the tables are lit by a rooflight. The walls and decorations are Agra red sandstone, cherry and walnut floors and furniture of rosewood. The interior achieves richness and interest in a simple and modern way with chandeliers over main tables.
The restaurant opened in October 2004.
